10/2013 – From the Iraqi folklore

Iraqi is like any other Country it has traditions, culture, and vibrant daily life that reflect the character of the people living in it. On the 27 October 2013, at 5 pm at 6767 côte des neiges, The Iraqi community Center is organizing it’s annual event, this year under the title “From Iraqi Floklore”. We are not offering you the lamp of Ali Baba and we will not take you on a ride on a flying carpet. But we promise you a remarkable experience while partaking in the daily life of a typical neighborhood in Iraq.

 

You will try some of the typical food you will normally find on the streets , such us our famous Shalgham (turnip cooked in date molasses), our famous falafel sandwich is not to be missed, you can end your trip with a cup of tea at typical Iraqi coffee shop and listen to the traditional Iraqi Music.

Entry Tickets are $5 for adults and free for kids under 12 everyone is welcomed. A supervised day care service with amusement for children 4 to 10 will be available ($ 3 per child).This event is funded by CDN/NDG Borough-Ville de Montreal and merchants and volunteers from the Iraqi community.

07/2013 – Canada Day

 

As in the previous years, the Iraqi Community Center will be participating in the upcoming Canada Day Parade which takes place on July 1st each year in downtown, Montreal.

The ICC encourages the participation of the entire community in this event, which reflects the Canadian multiculturalism.

11/2012 – Baghdadi Souk in Montreal

“Baghdadi Souk in Montreal”, was organized at the community center 6767 Côte-des-Neiges on November 4th, 2012. More than 500 visitors representing the various Iraqi community backgrounds and ages as well as the Iraqi consul, the consulate staff in Montreal, Arabic and Canadian communities and organizations attended this event. Everyone enjoyed the traditional Iraqi food and the folkloric music.

The ICC would like to thank all the sponsors and volunteers who made this event a big success.

 

09/2012 – Embedded in baghdad

The Iraqi Community Center, presented the documentary “Embedded in Baghdad” which was produced by the journalist Alexandre Trudeau during the war in Iraq in 2003. The movie was then followed by a discussion period with the producer and the main character in the movie, Mrs. Layla Al-Houri. The movie was directed by ICC board member Ban Al-Quzwini.

 

06/2012 – Canada Day

For the second time, The ICC has participated in the Canada day parade which took place on July 1st in downtown Montreal. The Iraqi float included a truck, banners, flags, and Iraqi folkloric music.

Among the participants was the Iraqi General Consul in Montreal.

At the end, a souvenir wall plaque was presented to the ICC representing the 35th anniversary of Canada day parade.
